Meet Our Axolotls!

Yes, you read right!  If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram (both ErinDisaster) you'll know that we added to our family with 2 axolotls!  I'm pretty psyched about it, and Brendan's completely enamoured with these guys.  Ben and my mom came with me to pick up the tank and critters, but Ben fell asleep in the car so he hasn't seen them  yet.  Mom exlaimed "They're THAT big?!" when we set a bucket beside her.  Apparently they're a bit larger for their species or something.  Exciting times!

We have a black one and a white one.  The black one is dominant, pretty active, and likes to chew the limbs off the poor white one.  Currently the white one is missing his right arm, he just has a little nubbin in its place.  They regenerate though, so that'll be fun to watch.  I'm debating whether to name the black one Murderface...we'll see.

Take a look at the black axolotl!

Aaaaaand here's the video I shot.

Such delightful little guys.  Eeeeeep!!!

Much love,

~E

Axolotls! Eeeee, they're such adorable little critters! I loved watching that video - the soundtrack was perfect, hehe.

Poor little Mr White with his nubbin. I can't believe the other dude chewed it off! Haha, meanie. Maybe Murderface is an appropriate name (anything with face on the end is awesome, my old laptop was called Rotface). I'm excited to see more of these guys.

I'll be completely honest, I've never heard of these creatures.. but.. they sound REALLY fascinating. Eating limbs and them being able to regenerate, CRAZY! :P
I need to look into them more, they sound great!
Murderface sounds like a fitting name, too.. LOL

Whoa. WHOA! I have never seen anything like that in my entire life, nor heard of it. The science classes in Maryland obviously taught me nothing. But it looks like a baby dinosaur and that is awesome enough for me!

I saw guys like this at the zoo yesterday. So cool. They remind me of Toothless from How to Train your Dragon. Only in adorable, aquatic size.

They are cute! But Murderface definitely has a sinister air around him.

Erin! I used to have those lovely creatures when I was a little girl. I had a whole zoo and had already forgotten my little guys.
Now I want to have axolotls again :)
