Cactus in a Tea Cup - Tutorial

I have a fascination with vintage tea cups. I have a growing collection, but I never really know how to display them. I own this beautiful vintage crockery set, it was my Grandma’s, and it sits in our kitchen cupboard behind a frosted glass door, such a shame.

I bought a couple of beautiful tea cups and saucers from a vintage fair a year or so ago and they have also sat behind the dreaded frosted glass. I’ve been desperate to display them, but they looked kind of silly just plonked on my fireplace. So I came up with a better use for them …

… a cactus (or is it cacti?) in a tea cup.

All you need is:

• A tea cup
• A cactus
• Cactus gravel

So simple, but very pretty.

• Put some of the gravel at the bottom of the cup to help with drainage. About 1 cm.
• Transfer the cactus from the pot it came in. Handle the cactus with some newspaper or a few magazine pages to avoid the prickles.
• If you don’t have enough soil then just add a little extra. I used the same soil I use in the flower beds outside. Make sure your soil is level with the base of the cactus.
• Use some more gravel to prettify the surface, you could also add some glitter for extra cuteness!
  
  
  
  
  

No need for drainage holes, just make sure you don’t over water the poor thing. Test the soil, if it’s dry, give the cactus a little watering - straight into the soil and not over the cactus.

And that’s it! A great way to display your vintage tea cups.
