Road Trip 2012: Vancouver to Nanaimo

The second day of our road trip was definitely one that sticks out in my memory.  In a nut shell I met my penpal Stephanie, took a ferry across to Vancouver Island, and saw a stunning sunset.  Pretty damn dreamy if you ask me.

While crossing the ocean to get across the island, I couldn't help but think about this Twitter account.  (Thank you Nova!)  I get it now.  I friggun get it now.  Half way through our voyage on our "fantasy flotilla", the ship began jolting a bit and then just stopped.  They were "running tests", meanwhile I was asking friends on Facebook to avenge my death.

Here's some photos!

When we finally arrived in Nanaimo, it was late.  We were tired, hungry, and needed a place for the night.  We drove around downtown for a bit until I spotted it -- a hostel.  Raimund had never stayed at a hostel before.  It was the perfect, cheap way to spend our first night, right?

NOPE.

The hostel was $40 for the night, but it was right above a bar.  Not so bad, until we saw some DJ's bringing in equipment.  OH SHIT.

Until about 1 am it sounded like there was a goddamn rave below us.  No word of a lie.  I made a video to prove it.  Well, I loosely say video.  It's all black but you can hear us talking and the shitty rave music.

And there you have our first night on the island.  I'll be back with more stories to regale.

Later gators,

~E

Yup, that's basically every hostel I've ever stayed in. At least there wasn't an Argentinian family with a newborn baby in your room.

That's still one of my favorite twitter accounts.

That video reminds me of the first student apartment I lived in. My neighbours used to blast Bloodhound Gang songs at all hours. Good times.

Are those bunnies from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory? BEST. CANDIED. APPLES. EVER.
