BLOG IN TRANSITION

WELCOME TO THE NEW BLOG!

I've been working away at it for a while, and I'm pretty happy to FINALLY unveil the design and details.  Hold onto your seats, kids...

My Beautiful Disaster is now Charlie Foxtrot.  I've been feeling out of touch with the name My Beautiful Disaster for a long time now, but was hesitant to change it.  That hesitation led to me becoming distant from my online home.  It's funny how a name can bring you down, isn't it?  With the new name comes a renewed energy to this hobby I so love, and I hope you'll stick around for the ride.

Raimund has become intrigued with this online community, so he'll also be making appearances on here as well, which I think is rad.  He's a fantastic guy with a wicked hat collection and penchant for things retro, so he'll be a great fit in the (online) neighbourhood.

I'm still in the process of tweaking design elements on here, so I'll keep my fingers crossed it won't look too wonky on your end.  Pinky promise.

In other news, we're still in the midst of unpacking belongings and making the apartment feel like home.  I never realized how much junk I collected over the years until I had to box everything up.  HOLY CRAP.  So far we've dropped off 4 car loads of donations to Value Village, and I still have more to get rid of.  It's worth it though, it feels good to let go of the past (including the ripping of photos.)

That's it for now!

I Hate Moving...An Update

To quote Tom Green, moving is like "pulling a 10 lb roast out of my ass with a plastic fork."

As I write this, my Mac is sitting on the coffee table of my new place, and everything is cluttered.  I still have a free-candy van load of more belongings back at my old place I need to fetch, as well we're still trying to clear space for all of our junk in this small apartment.  I unloaded a box full of shoes and bags upon bags of clothing at the Value Village just down the road from us this past week, so I better not go shopping there for a while or I may end up buying stuff back.

The move is a slow process, as it's mainly Raimund and I moving stuff in after work and staying up until 11 pm or so unpacking and organizing.  This has been the routine for a week now, and I'm hoping it'll be all over soon.  I'm pooped.

The good thing about all of this, though, is the location.  I'm steps away from sushi (SCORE) and the river valley is at my front steps.  Oh, and I FINALLY have a balcony!  The balcony is currently inhabited by a small family of pigeons, and seeing as they're behind on rent cheques, we plan to evict them soon.

My cameras and knick-knacks are unpacked for the most part, so it's starting to feel like home.  And that's the main thing, right?

Besides all this kerfuffle, I'm excited for July.  Plans are to take a road trip to Saskatchewan, as well I hope to launch ze new blawg on Sunday.  Will we make it?  We'll see.

Anywho, I should wrap this post up.  Those closets aren't going to clean themselves. >:O

Ch-Ch-Changes

Entire outfit: Thrifted. Dress- $9. Shoes- $25. Viva Value Village!

So, lots of changes are happening around here, both online and in real life.  Basically, I'm pretty damn excited for the future.

In my real life, I'm MOVING!!!  This is pretty exciting for me, because for the past couple years my apartment has been "interesting" to say the least.  Check my Apartment Bullshit files for a couple stories there...

We began moving things in this past Saturday, only to be stopped by the resident jerk maintenance worker who had a list of rules as to moving.  Only 2 hours, not on Sundays or past 7 pm, booking elevators, etc.  I'd gladly respect his rules if he didn't come across as so condescending.  It must've been my Communist hat I was wearing.  That's it, right??  Anyways, this will be entertaining fo sho.

And if you haven't taken a wild guess yet, I'm moving in with Raimund.  Whoa, getting serious up in here!  He's a great guy and this step, albeit quick, feels right.  We practically live together anyways at my place, but felt his apartment was better.  No shitty noisy neighbours (thank science for concrete buildings!), Ben still gets his own BIGGER room, there's a beautiful courtyard, swimming pool, work out room, and fantastic view of downtown.  Don't believe me?  Take a peek:

Awesomeness all around.  I can't to live there full time.  Eeep!

Other changes around here will be on the blog.  After much thought, I've decided to re-name my blog and give it a slight face-lift.

But Erin, why would you do that?

Good question, glad you asked bud.  Basically, I feel like "My Beautiful Disaster" was the old me, and because of that I feel slightly stuck.  Ambition to post is waning and this is one of my favourite hobbies, so something needs to change.  As well, Raimund caught the blog bug and wants to write on here too, so I thought why not?  He keeps me entertained and together we're...delightful?  Interesting?  You'll be the judge.  We're also thinking of starting up an Etsy shop of our prints.  The sky is endless here, folks.  I'm hoping the new blog launch will be July 1, but with moving we'll see how it goes.

So, those are my two big changes right now.  When I'm not packing I'm doing design work.  When I'm not doing that I'm busy with my real job or Benji.  Busy busy busy.

Anything new with you guys?  I have so many blogs to catch up on and discover.  Blogging via iPhone isn't exactly ideal.  Sigh.

Farmer's Market

The downtown Farmer's Market is one of the best things about my city.  It's out in the open air, it spans a couple blocks, and you're bound to find something tasty.  On this trip we managed to get a meat pie (lamb), cabbage rolls, and little white chocolate mice to snack on.

Shot on my Nikon FM.

There's going to be some big changes coming to the blog soon.  I need it definitely.  Can't wait to reveal more later.

Road Trip 2012: Victoria Blossoms

One thing I loved while we were in Victoria was how it felt like we fast-forward one month into the future.  When we left Edmonton in early April we were driving in the middle of a blizzard.  Within a couple days we were on the island and everything was lush and green.

It's only been recently that it's started to really green-up here in Edmonton, but I have yet to see blossoms quite like this here.

What screams spring to you?  To me it's blossoms and the fact that it's daylight past 9 pm here!

Redscale Film & The Park

Li'l Miss Diana Mini was begging to come play with us this weekend.

I couldn't say no to her.

It amuses me how the top photo was flipped, then printed.  Silly lab techs, when will you ever learn?

The light leaks were completely by accident.  The first one happened when the back of my Diana fell off at the playground.  The second time happened when we were at home and I had a "derp" moment...I opened up my camera thinking I had already rewound the film.  Analogue is so quaint, no?

I threw some more redscale film in my Canon AE-1 so that's exciting.  Hopefully the back won't open up on me, har har har.

Action Sampler Awesomeness

Last weekend was spent out in the country for Raimund's brother's engagement party.  It was interesting to say the least.  (Interesting = red neck-y)  On Sunday we decided to head to my family's place, but not before stopping and testing out my Action Sampler camera at the beach.  I actually bought this last spring but haven't really taken it out.  It's been sitting all purdy-like on my shelf.

Here's what came out:

This camera is too much fun.  Not the best photos, but still I love them!

Anyone else have this camera?  How did your photos come out?
