It still hasn't hit me that it's January. I'm not sure if I'm actually ready to start a new year, I'm still hung up on the old one. 2012 was pretty fun with our travels, so I'm hoping 2013 will be filled with road trips and adventures as well.
So, what's going on in our neck of the woods? Well, we haven't taken our Christmas tree down yet. I'm still slightly attached to its awesomeness. I have to get my ass in gear and do some more baking. I made red velvet cupcakes for the family at Christmas and they're clamoring for more. As well my macaron mat finally made its journey overseas so I'm itching to try my hand at making those treats. Has anyone else out there attempted to make macarons? I'm a wee bit intimated and worried they'll come out looking like crap.
A resolution I have this year, although I don't really believe in the whole resolution thing, is to get back into snail mail. I started penpalling when I was 13 and have been enamored with mail ever since. I have a few penpals that I'm hoping to start back up writing with again, and in all honesty I'm pretty stoked about it. I recently re-activated my account on this penpal site again, but all I keep getting are creepy messages from foreign dudes. (I actually have a Tumblr account with screen shots of the weirdo messages I've gotten, I can link you if you need a laugh. ;)
This year I want to kinda sorta focus on myself a bit more. I feel almost selfish for writing that, but it's true! I get too wrapped up with worrying about how everyone around me is doing, both at work and at home, that I sometimes forget to take time out for myself to just sit back and relax. So basically what I'm saying is I want more time for bubble baths and wandering around Edmonton.
This is what I've been thinking about this past week, what the heck has been on your mind lately?
Much love,
E & R
PS...Raimund says he has some of his own blog posts up his sleeve, so you guys will be reading those soon. WHOA.

I don't think that you wanting time for yourself is selfish. And if it is, then I will call myself selfish too. Long bubble baths...here's something I haven't done in a while. Usually a shower and I'm out the door. LoL And even though I don't believe in this whole resolution thing, I would say that "having more time for myself" sound good to add on the list. Kisses
Love, Andreea!
Aha interpals! Don't worry I've always gotten creepy dude messages. Snail pals sounds awesome ;)
I'm all about spending time on yourself! Rock it!
ALSO PLEASE WRITE ME A LETTER
I don't think it's selfish at all, in fact I have to do that as well! Take more time for myself...sounds wonderful!
I cannot wait to see how those macarons turn out! I really want to make some, too, saw a baking show the other day and it looked so easy.
Happy New Year and Frohes Neues to Raimund! Hugs xxx
P.S. I'd love to be pen pals - remember the card we wrote each other? It's still on my pin board - I just need your new address! Shoot me an email!
I'll be a penpal! Bubble baths sound amazing! I hate my bathtub but I still love a good bubble. Just pair that with a beer or some wine and you're good to go
Myself and my housemate left our Christmas tree up one year until July..we finally took it down when passers-by on our street started pointing and laughing outside our window! It was a pretty grim apartment though so the twinkling lights brightened it up! I'm liking your snailmail penpal resolution..I'd definitely love to do that too if it was guaranteed weirdos-free. And focusing more on yourself is a great resolution too - it's so easy to get swept up in other people's preoccupations & neglect your own! PS: Just stumbled upon your lovely blog and I'm an instant fan :)
I would love to get back into snail mail as well. When I was living in Jasper I was doing a lot more of that, sending out postcards to friends and relatives but I'd love to get more into it no matter where in the world I am. Followed your blog via Totally Awesome Blog Hop :)

I'd love to be your pen pal! We still haven't taken down our Christmas tree, either. Here is a recipe for macarons if you're interested: http://www.talesofatumbleweed.com/2012/12/a-tumbleweed-tutorial-french-macarons.html
don't feel selfish for needing time to yourself, erin! i need tons of time to myself in order to function :P xoxo!!
Oh Interpals... I finally figured out how to set my settings in such a way that only girls can contact me, because those creeps just made me want to delete my account! Ugh.
One of my New Year's resolutions was to stop lurking on blogs and be a more active commenter, so Hi! You may not have heard from me before, but you will now :)
I had an account with that site too, but I either got stood up after sending my little package or, yes, getting the creepiest guys using it as a dating service -_-, haha. I'd love to set up my own sort of penpal swap within our own community, you know? I'm glad I found your blog via the blog hop. I kind of can't believe it's January too, seems strange, haha. Anyway, hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Good luck with your macarons! I've attempted macarons twice before, only once they came out cute, but not even close to perfect. I wasn't using a macaron mat though so definitely post about it!
Interpals has always kinda creeped me out.
A better way to get pen pals is to try the following sites.

Have you ever hear of the Letter Writers Alliance? http://16sparrows.com/LWA/membership.html It's a pretty cool way to get a pen pal! If you would like to be pen pals, I am looking for a new one :)
I have the SAME resolution! (:
If you'd like to be pen pals, let me know. I would love to have a new one!
I've put our Christmas tree away today and it made me a bit sad. I guess I'd gotten used to having it in the house ... it'll be darker at night now :/.
Awe, pen pals! I have a few and love, love to write letters! Why don't you email me your address? ;) I'd love to send you a little something!
Hope you have a wonderful week! ;D
speaking of snail mail---I GOT SOME FROM YOU THE OTHER DAY! it made my day. i loved the little cbc inserts. i love everything cbc. you get me.
Hey girl! Happy New Year :) I'm in the same boat - kind of not ready for 2013, but here we go! I think you should definitely attempt the macarons, and hey - if it doesn't work out you can come up with one of those really awesome "Nailed It!" memes, right? And OMG I need that Tumblr link pretty please - I love laughing at creepy people.
P.S. Your pickle ornament rocks.
I'll be your penpal! I love having penpals!

This is the first year I made a resolution. I think I found them off putting because everyone makes the same couple of resolutions (quit smoking or loose weight). This year I decided to because I realized you can make a small goal. Mine was to wear my hair down. I was doing great at first but now I've been reverting back to a pony tail. I think I need a hair cut and then I would be back into wearing it down. Another great thing I've seen is people picking a word or theme to live by. My friend has done that for the past three years and it has done him well. Right now I've been living by the PBS tag line, 'Be More'.
